What is included in the Bridal cost?
Both a hair and makeup trial is included in the Bridal Package with no travel expense. The trial will take about 2 hours total and is a very important time together. We expand more on the trial question #4 below. Also included in the bridal package is a false lash application at the trial and the day of, airbrush foundation and the comfort to know we are working round the clock to ensure our differ in timezones do not negatively affect your planning.
What kind of products do you use?
Each artist is always on the lookout for the latest information and best product for your specific needs. We use a range of luxury hair + makeup brands to ensure both durability and appearance. Our Earth is very important to us and we use Cruelty Free + Vegan products where we can. We are always open to your product request and will do our due diligence to research that product on our end. In addition to traditional false lashes, we can offer a Mink or Faux Mink lash at an additional expense.
Each and every foundation application is done with Airbrush Makeup. Specifically, Temptu Perfect Canvas Hydralock. It is the perfect blend of a natural finish with a skin like texture. Always waterproof, always transfer proof…and always flawless. With our skilled artists and this incredible formula, you will never again wonder “will it last”
How can I be assured my Wedding Date is reserved?
Medicine of Beauty reserves the right to send multiple clients quotes for the same Wedding Day as a request comes in. In order to reserve your Date with us, we do require a non refundable retainer and signed contract. Once we receive BOTH the retainer and contract, your Wedding Date is considered reserved and we will not take another client. The retainer will be put toward your final bill and is non refundable and non transferable.
Do I really need a trial?
YES YES YES! The trial is a very important time between the artist(s) and client. In our perfect world, the hair + makeup trial are at the same time so that you can see an accurate representation of what your Wedding Day look will be. During this two hour session, the artist(s) will walk you through the desired look and counsel the client as to what is feasible. It is important for the Makeup Artist to assess your skin and recommend any products or treatments that will benefit the application process. In the same way, it is important for the Hair Stylist to see the texture of your hair and compare it to the inspiration photos that you have provided. The hair stylist may suggest a smoothing treatment or clip in extensions, should your current hair not be able to be styled how you desire. It’s a time of total honesty. We desperately want you to feel and look your best, so we NEED you to let us know if you need something changed or adjusted. The trial is to ensure that the day of there are no surprises. Prior to the trial, we will send you a prep sheet letting you know what we need from you and what you can expect from us. For our destination brides, we can schedule the trial for as close to the wedding as your schedule allows.
If I forego the trial, does the price decrease?.
In a short answer, it does not. Due to the environmental conditions of the islands, we require a trial, of sorts, for all of our brides. This is to ensure that your hair and makeup are able to withstand the changes that they go through. The last thing that you, or us as your beauty team, want on your wedding day is to be surprised with anything unexpected. Should a destination bride arrive within days of the Wedding Date, we would offer the trial to be for the rehearsal or any evening of festivities leading up to the occasion, if a day time appointment is not available. In the rare event a trial is 100% not possible we would need to schedule a larger block of service time the day of to ensure that you are completely satisfied and leave room for the unexpected.
How do we determine the timing of services to ensure overall punctuality?
The artists of Medicine of Beauty are known for their art of both beauty services and time management. On the Wedding Day, we ask for one hour each for the bridal hair + makeup and 45 minutes each service per additional person. We are able to work on the same person at the same time. These time frames are a general guide and depending on the requested style may take more or less time per person. The artist in charge will be in close communication with the Wedding Planner and important persons to ensure we have an accurate timeline for your specific needs. Should we need to bring on additional artists there will be no additional fees to the client. Please be advised that should scheduling require our artists to be at your location and ready to begin services prior to 6:59am, an “early riser” fee will be included.
Are there travel fees?
Short answer, yes and no :)
If your wedding is on the island of Oahu, a travel fee is applied to wedding parties of 3 or less persons and is paid per artist. If your wedding party is 4 + persons receiving services there will be no travel fee
If your wedding is not on the island of Oahu the destination travel package will be applied. Please ask us for more details
In the event our artist(s) are required to pay for parking at any of the locations, that fee will be added to the final total and is due within 48 hours of the wedding.
I don’t wear a lot of makeup, do I really need to hire a professional makeup artist?
Absolutely!! There is no rule that says you have to wear a LOT of makeup on your wedding day…it just has to be the correct product applied correctly. We ensure all of our artists are skilled in the styles of makeup our clientele requests. The products that we use are luxury beauty products that will feel weightless on the skin, last the entire day (and through dancing!) and photograph flawlessly.
Choosing a makeup artist is a very big responsibility and you shouldn’t trust just anyone with that gift.
I’m really good at my own makeup, do I really need to hire a professional makeup artist
Absolutely!! In addition to the answer above, in question 8, the day of the wedding is extremely busy. As much as we try to request the bride be allowed to relax and focus on her self care, it’s much more common that you are being pulled in a lot of different directions and constantly answering questions. One of the absolute worst things that could happen that morning is you run out of time to do your makeup at your own pace and are rushed through the process…this is most commonly where mistakes are made and helloooooo anxiety. When we begin corresponding we always ask if we can be your friend on Social Media. This helps us see you in your own eyes…we can tell a LOT about your beauty style simply by the photos you post! Let us pamper you. Let yourself take a day off and invest in a team you trust to execute your signature look.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Venmo - will include Hawaii State Tax
PayPal - will include Hawaii State Tax
All major Credit Cards - will include a processing fee and Hawaii State Tax
Can I schedule just the trial before deciding on officially booking you for my Wedding Day?
Yes! We treat that request as a Special Event Makeup and the price is $175. That amount is due at the time of booking to reserve your appointment. After the trial, should you choose to go with another company for your Wedding Day that is 100% your prerogative. In the event that you DO want to hire us for your Wedding Day, the $175 will be applied to the total bill of services :)
PLEASE NOTE THAT BOOKING A TRIAL DOES NOT RESERVE YOUR WEDDING DATE
We do not reserve the actual wedding day until we have both the signed contract and the entire retainer. We will still be giving quotes to clients with that same wedding day up until the point we have both the signed contract and the entire retainer.
Do you offer to do “just eyes” or “just face” ?
At this time, we do not. For a look to be complete and accurately represent our work, the makeup will need to be done by one of our artists from start to finish. This will also ensure the makeup will last all day. In addition, we do not touch up or modify another artist's work if you have hired another artist outside of Medicine of Beauty.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THIS POLICY EXTENDS TO “HELPING” A PERSON WITH SOMETHING LAST MINUTE
We frequently get asked if we can assist someone who did not book our services with something (ie lash application, blending, etc) . If we have time and if they are able to provide payment for that service prior to it being performed we will do our best to fit them into the schedule. However, our focus will be on those that reserved us prior to the day.
We are doing our photos after the ceremony, are you available to stay for touchups?
Yes! If you would like to hire our artist(s) to stay for touchups, please include that in your quote request so that we can provide you with that information.
Do you have experience with Ethnic skin tones?
Very much so :) Our lead makeup artist, Kate Broadhurst, began her 15 year career in Washington, DC. While there she managed a multi million dollar MAC store in a very diverse neighborhood. In addition, Kate worked very closely with Michelle Obama’s personal makeup artist, Carl Ray.
Kate has thoroughly vetted each and every artist that she hires and ensures that they are able to perform to the best of each client’s needs in her absence.
We promise you that we will have the correct product and shades to ensure both you and all of your guests are perfectly matched.
